In the 2002 Purdue vs Wake Forest game at Ross-Ade Stadium the Demon Deacons: scored 10 points off of Boilermaker turnovers; rushed the football for 248 yards; avoided penalties in key situations; and controlled the clock by possessing the ball for 34:22. What a difference a year makes. Stu Schweigert intercepted Demon Deacon QB Cory Randolph on the first play from scrimmage and returned the ball 38 yards. Boilermaker K Ben Jones scored the first points of the game with a 27 yard field goal. A Purdue interception turned into Purdue points. Wake Forest RB Cory Barclay (Barclay scored 3 TDs at Ross-Ade in 2002) was the Deacons leading rusher carrying the ball 19 times for a net of 26 yards. From the Boilermaker backfield RBs Jerod Void, Jerome Brooks, and Brandon Jones combined for 156 (129 rushing, 27 receiving) yards of net offense.
THE STAND: Wake Forest recovered a Purdue fumble at the Purdue 25 yardline with 2:28 left in regulation. The Demon Deacons were flagged for delay of game and holding, putting the ball on the 40. Two passes and a rush later Wake Forest was back in the Red-Zone with 4th and 1 at the Purdue 16 yardline. Stu Schweigert blitzed up the middle and tackled Cory Barclay for a 3 yard loss. The Purdue Defense preserved a victory.
