2003-04 Big Ten Football Bowl Games

Television Ratings: Neilsen Media Research reported approximately 108,400,000 US households owned televisions in 2003. The television rating is the percentage of those households that were tuned into the game. For example, the highest rated college football Bowl Game for the 2003-04 season was the National Championship game between Oklahoma and LSU with a television rating of 14.5. Thus, approximately 15,718,000 US households (108,400,000 x .145) watched the National Championship .

The highest television rated non-BCS bowl game for 2003-04 was the 2004 Capital One Bowl - Purdue vs Georgia - with approximately 8,672,000 US households watching. The 2004 Capital One Bowl was the only college bowl game that aired twice (live and taped) January 1, 2004 around the world on the American Forces Network.

Big Ten Conference football teams participated in three of the top five television rated games for the 2003-04 bowl season: BCS - Sugar (#1, 14.5 rating); BCS - Rose (#2, 14.4 rating) ; BCS - Orange (#3, 9.7 rating); BCS - Fiesta (#4, 8.7 rating) ; and the Capital One (#5, 8 rating).
